  • Bexhill

    In South East England's East Sussex county, (often simply Bexhill) Bexhill-on-Sea is a town of the seaside. In a charter granted in 772 AD by Mercia's King Offa was the reference to Bexhill, or Bexelei as it was called. On the instructions of St. Richard, Bishop of Chichester, the manor house that is later, of which the ruins can be seen in Bexhill Old Town at the Manor Gardens, was built about 1250. Queen Elizabeth I in 1561 took of Bexhill Manor possession and she gave it to Earl of Dorset, Sir Thomas Sackville, years later.

    In 1902 the railway station was opened and for the built Crowhurst Branch Line a Station of Bexhill West was built. Bexhill became an Incorporated Borough was in 1902. During government reform, Bexhill became part of the District Council of Rother in 1974, thereby losing its Council of the Town. Seventh Earl De La Warr, Reginald Sackville, decided to transform what was a village on a hill around its church into a resort of the seaside that was exclusive, which as Bexhill-on-Sea he named. In May 1902, Bexhill was the location for the first motor race.

Bexhill United F.C., who play at The Polegrove, and Little Common F.C., who play at the Recreation Ground, are Non-League football clubs that Bexhill-on-Sea has. Offering swimming lessons to children, Bexhill-on-Sea is home of Rother Swim Academy.

    The Garden was opened by Rother District Council Chairman and Coin Collector was unveiled by the Rotary Club of Bexhill's President Raouf Oderuth. A Bexhill portion was made in 1276 into a hunting park and in 1447 to fortify the Manor House, given permission was Bishop Adam de Moleyns. At Bexhill, in 1804 the King's German Legion soldiers were stationed. However, many of the people were actively trading with the enemy by way of smuggling, Te German troops had been here to protect Bexhill from the French.

    Being a country halt, the railway station situated roughly where the car park of Sainsbury's is today, through Bexhill the railway came in 1846. On the seafront at Bexhill-on-Sea, the De La Warr Pavilion is a Grade One listed building. Although the Festival no longer exists, the club exists, and each year, their committee organises the Classic Car Show of 100 Motoring Club at Bexhill held in the Polegrove, Bexhill, on bank holiday Monday in August during the life of the festival, in 1999, the organisers launched the Bexhill 100 Motoring Club. At the Recreation Ground, to the Cricket Club, Little Common Ramblers, Bexhill is home.
